Youngstown, Ohio — September 5, 2025 — Robert Rohrbaugh, a longtime state and federal criminal defense attorney currently suspended from the practice of law, is fighting to restore his law license after serving 19 months of a 52-month federal sentence. Now on the outside, Rohrbaugh has transformed his personal experience inside the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) into a mission to support lawyers, their clients, and families through the realities of federal incarceration.
While in prison, Rohrbaugh witnessed firsthand how pre-sentence investigation reports, programs, policies, and bureaucracy impact sentencing outcomes, credit calculations, and reentry. Today, he partners with colleague Robert Root to operate the Prison Law Firm, a service that provides behind-the-scenes guidance to attorneys nationwide. The practice offers insight into pre and post sentence strategies designed to reduce the amount of time an individual would serve in federal prison.
Some of the services offered include:
- plea negotiation with a focus on BOP program maximization,
- pre-sentence report assistance to ensure BOP program eligibility,
- sentencing memorandums designed to reduce potential sentences,
- assistance with post-conviction filings,
- administrative remedies (BP-8 BP-9 BP-10 BP-11),
- sentence reductions, and
- BOP program navigation.
“I took my inside experience and am using it to help lawyers understand what really happens behind the walls—the programs that matter, the bureaucratic roadblocks, and the opportunities to ensure the shortest possible stay,” said Rohrbaugh.
“Once my law license is restored, I can return to doing what I’ve loved for 25 years—practicing law and proudly wearing the title of lawyer again.”
Through the Prison Law Firm, Rohrbaugh and Root assist attorneys in expanding their practices by providing reliable federal prison expertise—ensuring that clients are better prepared before sentencing and more effectively represented while serving their terms.
