Gulfport, MS – A Jackson County, Mississippi man was sentenced on September 9, 2026, to 15 years in prison, the maximum amount of prison time provided by federal law, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.According to court documents and statements made in court, Curtis Lee Craven, 46, was found possessing a firearm by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on June 22, 2025, after they were called to his home for a domestic disturbance. Craven was captured on an audio recording physically and verbally abusing a female victim while holding her at gunpoint. U.S. Attorney J.E. Baxter Kruger of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement.The case was investigated by the FBI and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Smith prosecuted the case.Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative that brings federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, and other public safety partners together to coordinate efforts to combat violent crime and make communities safe.
