Man Sentenced for Role in Smuggling Organization that Kidnapped Migrants and Extorted Their Families; One Dead, Another Missing After Families Paid Ransoms in Vain

SAN DIEGO – Isaac Jimenez, a U.S. citizen residing in Tijuana, was sentenced in federal court today to 12 years in prison for his role in a human smuggling conspiracy whose members kidnapped migrants and extorted their families for ransom. Two victims in unrelated kidnappings—a father of four U.S. citizen children and a 21-year-old woman from Tijuana—were never heard from again. The woman was found dead in Tijuana; the man is believed to have been killed in Mexico by Jimenez’s coconspirators.
