Lexington Man Sentenced for Series of Armed Robberies

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Maurice Curry, 24, of Lexington was sentenced on Thursday to 288 months by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell for five counts of Hobbs Act Robbery, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and two counts of possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.  On September 10 and 11, 2023, officers with the Lexington and Frankfort Police Departments responded to a series of armed robberies. The robberies occurred in the early morning hours and the suspect, later identified as Maurice Curry, entered and robbed five businesses.  In several of the robberies, Curry threatened the lives of the clerks while armed with a gun and taser. Two victims sustained physical injury. After a police pursuit in Frankfort, Kentucky, Curry was apprehended and arrested for armed robberies.Under federal law, Curry must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 5 years. Jason Parman, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; John Nokes, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, Louisville Field Division; Chief Lawrence Weathers, Lexington Police Department; and Chief Derrick Napier, Frankfort Police Department, jointly announced the sentence.The investigation was conducted by the ATF, Lexington Police Department, and Frankfort Police Department.  Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.– END –
