PHILADELPHIA – United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Steven Louis, 30, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was charged by indictment with assault on a federal employee inflicting bodily injury. The defendant appeared in federal court today for an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Pamela A. Carlos.Louis has been detained in federal custody since his July 21 arrest on a criminal complaint and warrant. The indictment alleges that on July 21, 2026, the defendant forcibly assaulted United States Postal Service employee F.W., hitting F.W. in the head with a heavy metal pipe, while F. W. was engaged in or on account of the performance of his official duties.If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison.This case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shayna Gannone.The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
